Job Description

Description:

Substitute Personal Assistant

Are you looking for flexible, part-time work helping busy households—and an opportunity to get to know Pepper’s while gaining experience with different clients?

Pepper’s Personal Assistants is seeking dependable, adaptable Personal Assistants to provide substitute coverage when a regularly assigned PA is unavailable or when a client needs temporary support. Substitute PAs are an important part of our team, helping ensure that clients continue receiving thoughtful, reliable assistance.

This position can also be a great way to learn how Pepper’s works, demonstrate your strengths, and be considered for a regular client assignment when an appropriate opportunity becomes available. However, regular placement and a specific number of weekly hours are not guaranteed.

About Pepper's

Pepper’s Personal Assistants has supported busy families, executives, business owners, and professionals since 2012. Our PAs manage the household tasks, errands, projects, and details that make everyday life easier for our clients.

Pepper’s directly employs all PAs as W-2 employees. We are not a placement agency, and our PAs receive ongoing support from the Pepper’s management team.

Schedule & Hours

This is a part-time position with a variable schedule . Substitute opportunities generally occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., although individual shift times and locations vary according to client needs.

Important things to know:

  • Weekly hours are not guaranteed and may vary significantly.
  • Substitute shifts may be planned in advance or become available on shorter notice.
  • PAs may identify their availability and accept or decline offered shifts.
  • Once a PA accepts a shift, they are expected to complete the assignment reliably and on time.
  • Greater weekday availability may result in more substitute opportunities.
  • Substitute PAs may work with multiple clients in different parts of the greater Seattle area.
  • This role is best suited for someone who does not require a consistent number of weekly hours.

Candidates seeking a regular PA position are welcome to express interest. Substitute PAs may be considered for future client assignments based on availability, location, performance, client needs, and overall fit, but a future regular assignment is not guaranteed.

Compensation

$28–$31 per hour, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.

Employees are paid for all assigned working time, including required meetings, training, and eligible travel between work locations, in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

What You May Do

Because each household is different, substitute assignments may include:

  • Running errands and grocery shopping
  • Providing light meal preparation and planning
  • Completing laundry, dishes, and general household tidying
  • Maintaining or implementing home-organization systems
  • Coordinating appointments, deliveries, vendors, and household services
  • Supporting special projects and household-management needs
  • Following established household procedures and maintenance schedules
  • Tracking receipts, purchases, or other client-approved household expenses
  • Providing basic pet care
  • Communicating updates and documenting completed work
  • Learning and following client-specific preferences and instructions

Substitute PAs must be comfortable entering an established household, learning its systems quickly, and maintaining continuity without unnecessarily changing existing processes.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You

  • Have experience in household management, personal assistance, hospitality, caregiving, or another service-oriented role
  • Enjoy helping others and making everyday life easier
  • Can adapt quickly to different households, assignments, and priorities
  • Are proactive and able to work independently
  • Follow written instructions and established household systems carefully
  • Are organized and able to manage competing demands
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and reliably
  • Are punctual, dependable, and committed to accepted assignments
  • Exercise discretion and protect client confidentiality
  • Pay close attention to details while keeping the larger goal in mind
  • Welcome feedback and learn new processes quickly
  • Are comfortable using mobile apps and workplace technology
  • Work collaboratively and contribute to a supportive team
  • Are interested in an ongoing relationship with Pepper’s, even if your initial hours are limited or variable
Requirements: Position Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Live within reasonable commuting distance of the clients and areas they agree to support
  • Be comfortable driving throughout the greater Seattle area
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable access to an insured vehicle
  • Be comfortable working in homes with pets
  • Be able to perform the position’s essential functions, including lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Successfully complete Pepper’s required pre-employment screening process

Why join Pepper’s?

  • Competitive compensation: Earn $28–$31 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Direct W-2 employment: Pepper’s—not the individual client—is your employer.
  • Team support: Receive guidance, training, and ongoing support from the Pepper’s management team.
  • Variety: Gain experience supporting different households, priorities, and projects.
  • Opportunity for growth: Build your Pepper’s experience and be considered for future regular client assignments when your availability and qualifications align with an opening.
  • Employee benefits: Eligible employees receive paid time off, paid sick leave, a technology stipend, a 401(k) plan with employer match, and holiday pay in accordance with applicable plan terms and company policies.

Pepper's PA Core Values

Our values guide how we support clients, collaborate with one another, and approach our work:

  • One for All and All for Pepper: We act with trust, respect, teamwork, and consideration for the greater good.
  • FITFO: We take initiative, solve problems thoughtfully, and own our work and commitments.
  • Growth Mindset: We welcome feedback, remain adaptable, and continually look for ways to improve.
  • Provide Ease: We communicate clearly, stay organized, anticipate needs, and make life easier for clients and teammates.

Apply to Join Our Substitute Team

If you enjoy variety, have flexible weekday availability, and can provide dependable support across different households, we would like to hear from you.

Please include your general weekday availability, the areas where you are comfortable working, the number of hours you hope to work, and whether you would eventually be interested in a regular client assignment.

Pepper’s Personal Assistants is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process and employment.
